How Can I Be Passionate About Cleaning the Toilet?
"How can you be passionate about cleaning the bathroom?" This is a question I’ve asked myself many times over the past 25 years. Because trust me when I say, I’ve had ALOT of experience with this particular job. It started during my Junior and Senior year in college when I had my very first legitimate paid ministry position at a Christian retreat. What was my big exciting job? Well, it was a fancy one: kid’s ministry and housekeeping. For the first month, it was mostly ju

I'm Tired of Feeling Bad
" "I Feel Bad...." I can’t tell you how many times I heard myself saying that phrase. (What's even worse, is that I usually mean it.) For instance, just last week:
—I felt bad that my house wasn't clean enough. (It’s not like it was dirty—it just wasn’t perfect)
—I felt bad that I ordered my groceries online instead of going to the store and bargain hunting.
—I felt bad that I couldn’t control someone else’s bad decision. (Because obviously that's my responsibility!

It was a snowy February day when I took a break from work to eat some lunch. After a few bites, I knew something was wrong. The result was that two days later I had an emergency tooth extraction—-just 24 hours before we had to leave for a ministry trip.

Writing A New Ending
The other day I was listening to Jamie do an interview about how Mantour Ministries got started. As always, I had to cringe when he got to my part of our story. It always goes something like this: And then after we knew for sure that it was God’s will my sister said, "You can only do three Mantours—if we fail that's all the money we can afford to lose”. (Actually, it's all the money we had—and against my wishes, we did 5 Mantours that year.)
Still, every time I hear this

So I Can't Sew
When I was growing up, my Mom could sew anything. Curtains. Bedspreads. Costumes. Furniture Covers. If we had it in our home…my mom made it. And made it well. The best part was the clothes. They were amazing! Mom could copy any article of clothing that she saw in a store or on television. Because of her amazing taste, for years I was privileged to wear perfectly tailored copies of designer clothes. Again, that was one of the best parts—because everything was sewn
