Have you ever thought about the fact that Your Heavenly Father is Perfect?
"Yeah, right, ‘Des, Duh!!!!" We all know God is perfect the Bible says so.
But let’s take this point one step further and say:
“God is perfect….therefore, He is not carrying a truckload of garbage around with Him.”
You see, the #1 hindrance for most of us in developing our a Father/daughter relationship with God is the imperfect parent/child relationships we’ve had in the past.
I’m not saying it’s always fathers, because many struggle with Moms or grandparents or teachers or other aunts or uncles or other adults in authority.
The point is that it isn’t necessarily about “who” but it’s about the fact that we hear that God wants to be our father and we translate that phrase through the filter of the difficult relationship we’ve had with imperfect people in our lives.
I know I did.
I heard “Father God” and thought “He must be as displeased and disappointed in me as my Dad is….nothing I do will ever be good enough or right enough and I’ll spend my life trying to earn his love and never get it.”
But what I learned on my journey was that God is perfect.
That means He’s not carrying around all of the pain, anger, and abuse that my Dad had in his heart and mind. He’s not reacting to me out of pain like my Dad did….rather He is always responding to me from His steady heart of love, compassion, grace, and purity.
I’ve learned that God the Father is not anything like your abuser.
He’s never had a hateful, impure, inappropriate, jealous, manipulative, lying, thought in His mind or committed a sinful action.
Deuteronomy 32:4 says, “He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.”
2 Samuel 22:31, “As for God, his way is perfect”
When we truly allow this lesson to pierce through to our hearts, it is a game changer.
Rather than being afraid or approaching God with caution, we can finally come to Him knowing that we are safe. There’s nothing to be afraid of. He is a good Father and we can trust Him to always be good and always be perfect.
Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
