Getting into the Thanksgiving Groove

So here we are at Thanksgiving.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not sure how it happened. It seems like just a minute ago we were celebrating the 4th of July and now here we are bundled up and shopping for turkeys. What happened to all the time in between?

Well, I’ll tell you---life happened.

Life with all of it’s busy schedules, deadlines, tests and trials, the crazy and the mundane, the challenges and the victories. As we raced to keep up, time passed and now we’re here talking about Thanksgiving.

But what if you’re not quite in the Thanksgiving mood?

What if you’re struggling just to catch your breath and you haven’t really had a lot of time to wrap your head around counting your blessings?

What if you’ve had a truly difficult year and your heart is filled with so much pain that you almost dread the approaching celebrations?

Perhaps you’re not necessarily hurting, but you’re still struggling to get into the spirit of Thanksgiving. Maybe the idea of a big dinner with family and friends filled with the same old questions and the same old struggle is stealing your holiday joy.

If this is you, you’re probably wondering, “Isn’t there anything that I can do to find the holiday spirit and get into the groove of Thanksgiving?”

Yes, there absolutely is!!

As the old song says, if you want to overcome a spirit of heaviness, then it’s time to get your praise on.

Seriously, I’ve learned from experience that THE BEST WAY to get into the Thanksgiving mood is to turn off the secular music---even turn off the holiday tunes---and start filling your mind with praise and worship music.

As you begin to focus on all that God is, all that He has done, and all that we are in Him, you will find that your mood will change. A spirit of thanksgiving and gratefulness will rise up inside of you filling your mind and heart with joy and peace. With repeated doses of praise and worship music as you focus on God, you’ll find that it won’t be long until you’re back in the groove and ready to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Just to help you get started, I’ve listing my some of my favorite songs that help me get into the Thanksgiving groove during the holidays or really any time of year. I also asked some friends to list some of the songs that help them to choose thanksgiving and we’ve provided the links for you to enjoy. Finally, to help you take your “Thanksgiving jam” on the road, we’ve created a list entitled "4One Ministries Thanksgiving Songs" for you to enjoy throughout the month.

As we listen together, I’m sure we’ll all be encouraged to celebrate Jesus and be thankful for all He has done. Let’s get our groove back, Ladies!!
